Wedding talk...and go!

I've been engaged a month. A month people! When did that happen? Your guess is as good as mine.

But really. I haven't really talked much wedding here since then and there still isn't a whole to talk about besides the fact that weddings are freakin expensive! It also doesn't help that Matt and I have tons of family and friends making our guest list a little ridiculous right now. And finding a place for all of these family and friends is sort of tiring. So tiring that for a short second I sort of contemplated throwing it all out the window and just considered getting hitched in Vegas next weekend.

Buuuut then reality sunk in and of course I wouldn't want that. I want all of my friends and family at my wedding and dag nabbit we will find a place we like that doesn't require us to promise our first born, haha.

So somewhere in the midst of it all we'll start making some real plans and I'll go gaga over everything on Etsy and WeddingBee and The Knot and ah! I'm getting married people!

And I still couldn't 'be more excited!! :)

Anything making you excited today?

happy weekend all!

Congratulations again! It's hard but you can do a wedding that doesn't impoverish you. I think it's one of those quality/quantity tug of wars - but you'll figure it out! Just have fun, and shop around. There are eleventy billion blogs out there that will give you more inspiration than you can shake a stick at.

maybe you will air you wedding for all bloggers to see?

I have a bachelorette party this weekend, and that should prove to be a pretty interesting time. Don't they always?

And you're only at the beginning... just kidding. The planning IS a fun process, but it can get overwhelming. The good thing about sorting your guest list now is that you can have several drafts of it. What we did is write a new guest list from memory every month for 6 monts. Anyone who was forgotten more than twice was off the list. It's the only fair way we could narrow it all down.

I've got a wedding planning blog running at the moment, if it will help you. I'm in the UK, so you won't be able to buy the same items necessarily, but it may help you remember what you need to organise for the wedding day.

When you go to get quotes for catering, cakes, honeymoon etc, neglect to tell them it's for a wedding. They will honestly whack on another couple of grand once they hear it's a wedding. Just tell them it's a family get-together or an anniversary party or whatever. Tell the travel agent that you just fancied a big trip. Our quote for our "big trip" to Hawaii ended up costing half what the "honeymoon" quotes cost.

I am so excited for you, and I wanted to let you know that you can plan a wedding that doesn't have to be ridiculously expensive and still have a blast (of course, I don't know exactly HOW many guests you're planning with... ;)).

How exciting :) I'm hoping sometime this summer I will be in the same position. I know David will ask me sometime soon, but of course I have no idea when. If you want any wedding stuff--just ask--I have a ton of it since I have the bug :)

I'm so excited for you. This is going to be such a fun time! I'm no where close to getting married (or even, let's face it- dating someone I would BRING to a wedding) but I can't wait to see what your wedding turns out like. I know for sure it will be stunning and you will be beautiful!

Just catching up on things. Congrats!! For what it's worth, we had our wedding in Vegas (at a hall, not a casino) and it was very, very affordable. Much more than it ever would have been here in LA. Plus, it meant there was no need to entertain any of the guests or set up any special hotel rates (though we did find a timeshare place that beat any decent hotel price on the strip that booked their apartments like hotel rooms).

Just remember, the goal is to have fun. So whatever you do, make sure you enjoy it.

weddings are so fun. i love everything about them. however, i have yet to have to pay for one-so i'm sort of just that girl who obsesses over all things weddings until it comes time for me to actually have to spend money on it.
even then i'm sure i'll still love it. (just not the handing over cash part-daddy stout better have my wedding fund good and ready!)

you and matt are going to have a blast getting all the details figured out and putting everything together. and i hope that you pop on here often to show us and tell us how the planning is going.

Good luck with everything. I know it can seem kind of overwhelming, especially at first, but just keep your head up and keep your eyes open for whatever might pop up. I'm sure everything will turn out great! (and super fun!)

You two are way too adorable. Stop it, haha.

Weddings are ridiculously ridiculous.

And the only thing making me excited right now is the fact that it's Friday, thank Allah. :P

Well I don't even know you, but I'm excited for you! Weddings are so much fun. I love them! I'm not married, but I love going to weddings. There's a great book called Lies at the Altar by Dr. Robin Smith. It's a wonderful tool to strengthen relationships before you get married. Check it out!

I'm getting married too!! In April 2010. That's what's making me excited! Good luck with planning your wedding. We are quite the opposite of you in as much as we both have small families and so the expense and difficulty in finding a venue hasn't been a problem.

I love reading your blog and I'm looking forward to reading about your plans.

The man is out of town, and seven of my best girlfriends are coming over to participate in Rock Band karaoke, lewd discussions, and a bazillion bottles of wine.

AWESOME.

Good luck finding the perfect place!

I'm not getting married or even have a boyfriend for that matter and the thought of making a wedding guest list can make me break out in hives. However, I promise you though that everything will tie together and be wonderful!

I know what you mean about big guest lists. I have a small family, but he has a large family (with only keeping the guest list limited to mostly his family on his mother's side). I'm pretty sure we will be around 70-80 guests with just family and I don't even want to try and figure out which friends should be invited. At least we don't have to worry about meeting minimum numbers when it comes to catering...
Do you know if your planning on getting married in a church? If not, the less costly weddings I have seen have rented a hall and had the ceremony and dinner in the same room. Buffet dinners are also a great option as long as you make sure that everyone has their first plate of food before people go up for seconds (otherwise you and your future husband may find that the food is out before you make it there).
