I have a dream today.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
(excerpt from the I Have A Dream speech, August 28, 1963)
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968)

For as long as I live, that speech will give me chills. The good kind, of course. To this day, it brings tears to my eyes *every*time I read or hear it.. and his voice? Rings clearer in my head than I could possibly explain.

I feel shivers when I think of/hear this speech. The best kind of shivers. The kind of shivers that give us Hope, and encourage us to lead Change.

What is it about this speech that encourages Amens? I saw the first two commenters already have Amen-ed so I tried to not be the third, but honestly? Amen.

Thank you for posting about this. It's incredible how little I hear about MLK's birthday since I'm not in school anymore.

Also, the tuna and apples sounds YUM.

Taylor Branch's trilogy of books on Martin Luther King are some of the best books I have ever read.
